FAQ The Squirrels Part 2 of 5 Teaching Aids photos from Lithuania

The Eurasian Red Squirrels

The Eurasian Red Squirrels have been around for over 10,000 years—the end of the last Ice Age before the continents split. But they are an endangered species.

The Eurasian Red Squirrel is cute and photos of this squirrel show a personality that is endearing and worth saving from extinction.

Open a book and read about them in Adventures in the Park with Marcijona: The Red Squirrel and Our Days in the Park with Marcijona: The Red Squirrel by Grayce Lynn Lily.

Shown in their natural habitat and full squirreliness. Squirels are a more intelligent species than people think and play important roles in the eco system. Photos from Lithuania by photographer there.

Fun facts:
They can jump a great distance,
 they can hang upside down,
they are either right or left handed,
 and they can swim.

Introducing  an avid New England Sports Person, Coach, Player, Teacher, Referee, who collected Starting Lineups for his son over the years.  Now, he is in need of  help to pay  medical costs. Collection is of usual sports and many unique items as well.

Who, What

From the personal collection of an avid New England Sports Fan, Coach, Teacher, Referee, Player come Starting Lineups and other sports memorabilia collected for his son. Coach is now in need of offering  the collection for sale to help pay for medical ALF care. There is enough variety for everyone to add to their collection or start a collection.

UPDATE:  8.12.21 Coach played his final play as a result of breakthrough Delta Covid and lost the game.

Sports Connections

People Coach knew over his many years:

Basketball Bob Cousey, Tom Heinshon, George Blaney, Togo, Pete Carrill, Coach Lee Rose, Gene Keady, Pat Foster, refereed the Grant twins, Danny Manning, Keith Smart, Rebecca Lobo, The Triplets @ U of Ark, Coach Broyles,

Football refereed Sam Walton's son's high school Football Games Arkansas,

Baseball Rich Gedman, Dewey, Bob Stanley, Dick Bresciani and his Dad (Lou),

Golf George Archer, John Lister, Bob Gilder, Bobby Lewis, Jr and Patty, and on and on over the years.

The PBA players Norman Black, Chito and Joey Loyzaga, Mon Fernandez, Rich England, Manny Victorino.  We saw Joey Loyzaga on Guam when they did exhibition games. A treat.

The many PBA referees whose mechanics he helped improve by giving tips and clinics to present a strong presence, impartiality, and control in the game of basketball.  Two of those he helped were at  the Guam games to officiate Reunion week with Tom and Boy.

Philippine Pro Basketball Association Referee, Manila.   Letter from Chris

PBA Ref Coach K

Aldiosa, PBA regarding his officiating in that Pro League. Pro, Semi-Pro, College and High School  Referee Associations in the US in many states for 22 years. Men's and Women's basketball.

The collection represents some of the greatest sports personnel seen in person. The personal connection to these players is much more rewarding and the memories longer lasting. Before the internet, before national TV, and  social media, people actually went to live sporting events to see these players. Keep in mind that a team is just that a 'team', many members make it a team. There are  many more unsung heroes as big name draws, it's just as interesting to discover them as the 'big names.'

Memories

High School and College games before they were known, spring training, caddying on the golf tours for young golfers. For some of the pro sports tickets were free coming from employers to the employees. Seeing these games even from the "peanut heaven seats" was exhilarating.

Seeing Bobby Orr, Phil Esposito and other Bruins play, Johnny Havilcek, Don Nelson, Larry Siegfried,

taking a SPED class to watch Wade Boggs, Rich, Dewey, Bob, Eck, Mark Clear and other Red Sox in the spring.

Taking student athletes to Coach Lee Rose's basketball summer camps or to George Blaney's basketball camps giving them the opportunity to hone their skills and open their eyes to their possible potential or just having fun and making friends.

Round-up

Sports are healthy and not just for those who are  good at it! Exercise is an important aspect of good mental and physical health for a good life.

The Starting Lineup players represent the hard work and perseverance these individuals had along with enough talent to get to the big leagues.  They represent our fondest dreams and aspirations in some cases, in others we just want to honor them as the best that they are because they are so gifted!

Mom says: Shingles…You don’t want it!

Mom Says: ShinglesYou don’t want it!

Well as you are aware, our human dad died of breakthrough COVID-19  in August. Thanks for getting vaxed!
Stress apparently plays a big part in activating Shingles.  No stress here this year.
So the first week of September, our human Mom started having Shingles symptoms. Then the full blown 4 inch by 15 inch rash front to back.  Pain takes on a whole new meaning with Shingles. She spent so much time taking care of the Alz, cancer, copd, borderline heart failure (our human dad) and then worrying about paying the ALF. She had no time to take care of herself.  She didn't know there was a vax for Shingles or she would have taken it.
If you haven't had your Shingles Shot. Get it Now!  You do not want this.
We've been taking turns helping Mom de-stress, by sitting in her lap and purring.  Well, except for Big, he just sits near by and purrs.  He hasn't figured out laps yet. Mom says it all helps and thanks us.

Rusty 'n Big G's Sports Corner Coach K(arpowich) Fund

Coach K

Our Human Sports Collector is ending his long run.  He has been moved from the hospital with his COVID breakthrough of the Delta into Hospice Comfort Care.
A Worcester native and South High basketball and track performer who went to Worcester Junior, Northwest Missouri, then University of Arkansas, playing/ teaching/coaching/refereeing in all those areas along with Florida and Guam has come down to his last seconds in the game.   Update: Sorry to say he didn't win the game. He passed on August 12th.

Our last Blog Post showcased all those he met in his life colleagues and friends. See it here. or  https://graycelynnlilyauthor.blogspot.com/2020/10/rusty-and-big-gs-sports-corner-gift.html

A Go Fund Me has been started, as this was so sudden and unexpected we are not prepared.  Too much was not taken care of and this whole maze of getting help and getting things done even without COVID has been nerve   wracking to say the least.
If you remember Coach from intramurals, basketball, coaching, referring he needs your help now.  His sports world was an alternate to what real life was like and always in a good karma way.

Cats and International Cat Day Celebration August 8th

International Cat Day- August 8th

Hey Everyone!

Grayce here it's that time of year again!
...International Cat Day!!!!

It's a great time to remember all the serenity we bring to your life.  Or as goes on around here the chaos!

Mom says I've gotten very mean since none of us have flea problems anymore.  Just because I stake a claim to the hallways, the TV room, the bedrooms, the dining room, kitchen, and growl at anyone who tries to trespass.

Biggles chases me just because I growl at him.  Then I scream and run and hiss. Gets Mom mad.  She can't understand why I do that as he's twice my size and muscular.

Buddy!

Buddy is still with us and holding his own.  He liked it when it was cooler and he could go out, we could leave the door from the lanai and house open and we could all wander in and out.  Can't do that when it "feels like" 103. UPDATE:  2021 Actually Buddy passed in August of 2020. A grand old cat. He's with all his family friends.

We are holding our own in this pandemic and being in one of the hotspot states makes it even harder.  We hope everyone stays safe and hopeful that this will ease at some point for the whole world.  UPDATE:  2021 Our human Dad passed recently due to breakthrough Covid Delta. The state being number 3 in hot spots, just the sort of record you want to be known for. PLEASE get the vaccine!  Innocents are passing.

Since we're all watching our budgets I wanted to share some of my Grayce Cooks photos.  Maybe they'll cheer you up some.  It's a kindle version.  Put together a print version, but it's so photo-centric it'll be priced way out of whack, so haven't done it.

Mysteries and Cats. Reading - A Great Pastime!

Mysteries - Reading - A Great Pastime!

Healthy, fun!

Helping my human, sitting on the lap of the book reader is my job, gets me attention, pets, and a warm soft place to sleep. I’m comfy!

So to keep the mind active my human has been re-reading all her mystery books.

  • Dorothy Gilman, Mrs. Pollifax, light, sometimes gruesome, but fast reads New Jersey Garden Club CIA agent.

  • Heron Carvic’s, Miss Seeton, that oblivious Scotland Yard helper somewhat wordy about town settings and characters, but still light and quick.  Got the originals and a bunch of Hamilton Crane’s versions and Hampton Charles as well.

  • Too many Lillian Jackson Braun, The Cat Who’s, repeat of the premise of his fortune in each book tiring and wordy.

  • Elizabeth Peters, the Peabody’s and Egypt digs

  • All Agatha Christie, Poirot and Miss Marple.

  • All Rex Stout, Nero Wolfe.

  • Spattering of Sherlock Holmes, don’t know where they all are.

  • G. K. Chesterton, Father Brown.

  • Ellis Peters, Brother Cadfael.

  • Dorothy Sayers, Lord Peter Wimsey.

  • Marjorie Allingham, Mr. Campion.

  • And other single and straggling authors of mysteries. Aunt Dimity, etc.

  • Chi’s Sweet Home series translated from the original Japanese series, really silly kitten and her adventures, great fun.

The video of the book series and Chi’s New Address video, The books are truer to the original cartoon than the video Chi’s Sweet Home. But still good fun!

With the number of stray cats living here, we recognize quite a few of the personalities. Lightens our days.

Bunches of cookbooks that were never gotten to before.  Not cooking, just reading, lots of “got to try”.
