The collection represents some of the greatest sports personnel seen in person. The personal connection to these players is much more rewarding and the memories longer lasting. Before the internet, before national TV, and social media, people actually went to live sporting events to see these players. Keep in mind that a team is just that a 'team', many members make it a team. There are many more unsung heroes as big name draws, it's just as interesting to discover them as the 'big names.'
Memories
High School and College games before they were known, spring training, caddying on the golf tours for young golfers. For some of the pro sports tickets were free coming from employers to the employees. Seeing these games even from the "peanut heaven seats" was exhilarating.
Seeing Bobby Orr, Phil Esposito and other Bruins play, Johnny Havilcek, Don Nelson, Larry Siegfried,
taking a SPED class to watch Wade Boggs, Rich, Dewey, Bob, Eck, Mark Clear and other Red Sox in the spring.
Taking student athletes to Coach Lee Rose's basketball summer camps or to George Blaney's basketball camps giving them the opportunity to hone their skills and open their eyes to their possible potential or just having fun and making friends.
Round-up
Sports are healthy and not just for those who are good at it! Exercise is an important aspect of good mental and physical health for a good life.
The Starting Lineup players represent the hard work and perseverance these individuals had along with enough talent to get to the big leagues. They represent our fondest dreams and aspirations in some cases, in others we just want to honor them as the best that they are because they are so gifted!
